For the second year in a row, the world is no longer making progress on the SDGs, according to the 2022 report on the Sustainable Development Goals.
In September 2023, the world’s heads of state will meet at the United Nations Headquarters in New York for the second SDG Summit since the adoption of the agenda.
We have a lot to achieve before that. We are far behind the target. And we are running out of time. Accelerated Global Scale action is needed, says the Report.
The covid-19 pandemic erased or slowed down years of progress on the SDGs. Conflict, Climate Change, and growing inequalities are causing more challenges to recovery.
Our unsustainable consumption and production patterns are the root causes of climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution. The world’s most vulnerable countries and population groups are disproportionately impacted. Women have suffered a greater share of job losses combined with increased care work at home. One hundred and sixty million children were engaged in child labor in 2020 Worldwide; by the end of 2022, an additional 9 million children are again at risk of being pushed to do the same.
“We must rise higher to rescue the Sustainable Development Goals – and stay true to our promise of a world of peace, dignity, and prosperity on a healthy planet.”, says António Guterres, Secretary-General, United Nations
The Global Alliances Digital Magazine is another humble effort from GCPIT to work towards advancing the sustainable development goals and take it forward beyond 2030.
